Evaluation v. Surveillance

One of my profs here at Annenberg, Doug Thomas, recently gave a talk on gaming dispositions, or what you might call ethics of gaming communities. One of which ... was an intense desire for evaluation: How am I doing? What are my scores, percentages of destruction/acquisition/usefulness to my team? These are, of course, not only for your personal motivation but crucially public, so your teammates can assess valuable (as well as freeloading) players. I'm not a gamer, but I hafta ask Doug how he sees this in relation to Foucauldian surveillance, docile bodies, willing subjections, power and pleasure? He didn't talk about it in such terms, but it sure seems related, and he damn sure knows Le Michel.
